RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the risk factors associated with lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (LEDVT) and to establish a predictive model for patients who undergo gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. Methods: A review of clinical data was conducted on patients who underwent gynecologic laparoscopic surgery between November 1, 2020, and January 31, 2022. Patients who developed LEDVT after surgery were included as the observation group, while the control group comprised patients who did not experience complications. Multivariate forward stepwise logistic regression models were used to identify independent risk factors associated with LEDVT. A nomogram model was then developed based on these risk factors. Results: A total of 659 patients underwent gynecologic laparoscopic surgery during the study period, and 52 (7.89%) of these patients developed postoperative LEDVT. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that older age (adjusted OR, 1.085; 95% CI [1.034-1.138]; P < 0.05), longer operation duration (adjusted OR, 1.014; 95% CI [1.009-1.020]; P < 0.05), shorter activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) (adjusted OR, 0.749; 95% CI [0.635-0.884]; P < 0.05), higher D-dimer (adjusted OR, 4.929; 95% CI [2.369-10.255]; P < 0.05), higher Human Epididymis Protein 4 (HE4) (adjusted OR, 1.007; 95% CI [1.001-1.012]; P < 0.05), and history of hypertension (adjusted OR, 3.732; 95% CI [1.405-9.915]; P < 0.05) were all independent risk factors for LEDVT in patients who underwent gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. A nomogram model was then created, which had an area under the curve of 0.927 (95% CI [0.893-0.961]; P < 0.05), a sensitivity of 96.1%, and a specificity of 79.5%. Conclusions: A nomogram model that incorporates information on age, operation duration, APTT, D-dimer, history of hypertension, and HE4 could effectively predict the risk of LEDVT in patients undergoing gynecologic laparoscopic surgery, potentially helping to prevent the development of this complication.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a multifaceted developmental condition that commonly appears during early childhood. The etiology of ASD remains multifactorial and not yet fully understood. The identification of biomarkers may provide insights into the underlying mechanisms and pathophysiology of the disorder. The present study aimed to explore the causes of ASD by investigating the key biomedical markers, trace elements, and microbiota factors between children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and control subjects. Methods: Medline, PubMed, ProQuest, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and EMBSCO databases have been searched for publications from 2012 to 2023 with no language restrictions using the population, intervention, control, and outcome (PICO) approach. Keywords including "autism spectrum disorder," "oxytocin," "GABA," "Serotonin," "CRP," "IL-6," "Fe," "Zn," "Cu," and "gut microbiota" were used for the search. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal checklist was used to assess the article quality, and a random model was used to assess the mean difference and standardized difference between ASD and the control group in all biomedical markers, trace elements, and microbiota factors. Results: From 76,217 records, 43 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled analyses showed that children with ASD had significantly lower levels of oxytocin (mean differences, MD = -45.691, 95% confidence interval, CI: -61.667, -29.717), iron (MD = -3.203, 95% CI: -4.891, -1.514), and zinc (MD = -6.707, 95% CI: -12.691, -0.722), lower relative abundance of Bifidobacterium (MD = -1.321, 95% CI: -2.403, -0.238) and Parabacteroides (MD = -0.081, 95% CI: -0.148, -0.013), higher levels of c-reactive protein, CRP (MD = 0.401, 95% CI: 0.036, 0.772), and GABA (MD = 0.115, 95% CI: 0.045, 0.186), and higher relative abundance of Bacteroides (MD = 1.386, 95% CI: 0.717, 2.055) and Clostridium (MD = 0.281, 95% CI: 0.035, 0.526) when compared with controls. The results of the overall analyses were stable after performing the sensitivity analyses. Additionally, no substantial publication bias was observed among the studies. Interpretation: Children with ASD have significantly higher levels of CRP and GABA, lower levels of oxytocin, iron, and zinc, lower relative abundance of Bifidobacterium and Parabacteroides, and higher relative abundance of Faecalibacterium, Bacteroides, and Clostridium when compared with controls. These results suggest that these indicators may be a potential biomarker panel for the diagnosis or determining therapeutic targets of ASD. Furthermore, large, sample-based, and randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these results.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy serves as an important chapter in the life of women since more attention needs to be paid to both their physical and psychological health during this period. Adequate prenatal knowledge plays a key role in ensuring the health and safety of not only the pregnant women but also their fetuses and the entire family. With the development of information technology, web-based prenatal education has been brought into focus owing to its accessibility to comprehensive information, with high-quality information available to improve the quality of the overall gestation period, labor process, perinatal outcomes, and fetal outcomes. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the present situation of web-based prenatal education and to predict the future research direction of web-based prenatal education in China, thereby providing insights into improving the quality of health care of pregnant women. METHODS: A national cross-sectional study was conducted on 590,912 pregnant women in 31 provincial administrations of mainland China between August 2018 and August 2019. These pregnant women were initially recruited from local hospitals across the nation during antenatal and postnatal periods via a web-based education school. Demographic information and course completion status (including the categories and the number of courses they completed) of all the participants were collected. RESULTS: A total of 590,912 pregnant women participated in the web-based prenatal education in 2018. Among them, 188,508 (31.90%) participants were excluded because they did not complete any course, while 17,807 (3.01%) actively participated in web-based prenatal education and completed more than 100 courses. There were 5 categories of web-based courses; almost half of the pregnant women attended the courses on first and second trimesters (293,262/590,912, 49.63% and 298,168/590,912, 50.46%, respectively). We found that pregnant women were more concerned about the gestational diet, fetal-related knowledge, and other precautions before the labor. CONCLUSIONS: In the era of digitalization where information is rapidly disseminated, web-based prenatal education could become a more convenient, productive, and effective pathway for pregnant women since it could help them obtain adequate and optimal pregnancy-related information and gain more intellectual awareness about their pregnancy or preparation for pregnancy.

RESUMEN

According to the Unaccusative Hypothesis, intransitive verbs are divided into unaccusative and unergative ones based on the distinction of their syntactic properties, which has been proved by previous theoretical and empirical evidence. However, debate has been raised regarding whether intransitive verbs in Mandarin Chinese can be split into unaccusative and unergative ones syntactically. To analyze this theoretical controversy, the present study employed functional magnetic resonance imaging to compare the neural processing of deep unaccusative, unergative sentences, and passive sentences (derived structures undergoing a syntactic movement) in Mandarin Chinese. The results revealed no significant difference in the neural processing of deep unaccusative and unergative sentences, and the comparisons between passive sentences and the other sentence types revealed activation in the left superior temporal gyrus (LSTG) and the left middle frontal gyrus (LMFG). These findings indicate that the syntactic processing of unaccusative and unergative verbs in Mandarin Chinese is highly similar but different from that of passive verbs, which suggests that deep unaccusative and unergative sentences in Mandarin Chinese are both base-generated structures and that there is no syntactic distinction between unaccusative and unergative verbs in Mandarin Chinese.

RESUMEN

In this study, a new ecological dam based on the microbial fuel cell principle (MFCED) was designed to remove pollutants from river sediments and water bodies. Sediment organics were better removed in the MFCED mode in comparison with the other two modes (ecological dam with open circuit (OCED) and ecological dam filled with gravel in cathode chamber (GMFCED)). The difference of nitrogen source in water had little effect on the removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) (70-80%), while nitrate was more readily removed in the MFCED. The voltage curve and power curve were measured to understand the bioelectricity generation of MFCED. During the stable operation phase of MFCED, the voltage was stabilized between 0.09-0.15 V. The results of high-throughput sequencing indicated that the anode and cathode diversities of MFCED were more than the other systems, and the species diversity of the anode was more than that of the cathode in the MFCED. RESUMEN

This study mainly focuses on the preparation, characterization, and sorption performance for Cu(II) and Zn(II) by using nano-alumina material (NA) synthesized through the sol-gel method. The SEM, EDS, FT-IR, and XRD analysis methods were implemented to identify the micromorphology and crystal structure of the synthesized NA absorbent and its structure after the adsorbing procedure. The effect of effective variables including various absorbent dose, contact time, initial ion concentration, and temperature on the removal of Cu(II) and Zn(II) from aqueous solution by using NA was investigated through a single factor experiment. Kinetic studies indicated that adsorption of copper and zinc ions by NA was chemical adsorption. The adsorption isotherm data were fitted by Langmuir (R2: 0.919, 0.914), Freundlich (R2: 0.983, 0.993), and Temkin (R2: 0.876, 0.863) isotherms, indicating that copper and zinc ions were easily adsorbed by NA with maximum adsorption capacities of 87.7 and 77.5 mg/g for Cu2+ and Zn2+, respectively. Thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption of Cu2+ was spontaneous(G<0) and the adsorption of Zn2+ might not be spontaneous (G > 0) by NA. Graphical abstract ᅟ.

RESUMEN

This experiment was to investigate ginger extract on production performance, antioxidant ability and immunity of laying hens. A total of 600 Hy-Line brown laying hens aged at 25 wk old were randomly divided into 2 treatments, 4 replicates per treatment, 75 layers each replicate. The control group hens were fed a basal diet; the experimental group hens were fed basal diets with 0.1% ginger extract. The results were shown as follows: 1) ginger extract significantly enhanced laying rates (P < 0.05) and daily egg weight (P < 0.05), substantially reduced the ratio of feed to egg (P < 0.05) of the hens; 2) ginger extract did not change the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) and total antioxidant capacity (TAOC) but significantly improved plasma superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity (P < 0.05), reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) content (P < 0.05) of the birds; 3) ginger extract did not affect the contents of serum total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), globulin (GLB), but significantly increased lysozyme (LZM) activity (P < 0.05); 4) ginger extract also significantly reduced plasma prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) content (P < 0.05). This study shows that ginger extract not only can improve the birds' antioxidant capacity, enhance immune function, but also has a potential of reducing inflammatory response.
